Humber Dock, Hull painting

'Merchants of the Humber' at107

The railway steamers of the Associated Humber Lines were regular visitors to the Humber Dock. The ships loaded manufacturing goods for the outward bound leg of their voyage to the continent and returned with fresh produce for the nearby local markets. People walking past the sheds of Humber Dock would encounter the wonderful aroma of bacon and fresh fruit and vegetables. In this 1950's scene facing south down the dock are Associated Humber Line vessels ss Melrose Abbey, ss Bury, and ss Harrogate.
