'Lingard Crossing The Channel' Original Oil dc113

This original oil painting of Lingard by artist Dennis Chapman shows Lingard crossing the channel. Launched in 1893 in Norway. Rigged as a three-masted barque, she had her name changed to Wathara before being sold to James Bell and Company, Hull in 1919. She was then sold to Gustaf Erikson, Mariehamn in 1925 who gave her back her original name. In November 1935 she collided with the steamer Gerd, which was hit in the side and sunk with everyone on board. Lingard was badly damaged and towed to Gothenburg and comdemned for scrap, but was bought by a Norwegian company, repaired and made into a museum ship.
